Okay, so you guys have been thinking of ideas on how people should earn multicolored names, the fair way. Well, to solve similar problems on my site, I use a Money system. You can find it here(if you decide you want it).
Now, don't be alarmed -- this doesn't have to do with actual, real cash of any sort. How the Money system works, is anytime somebody posts in a roleplay thread, they get a certain number of Money. This number is set by you. What I like to use is $10 for each post. But you may use whatever number you like. You can also name your money, for example, Gems, Yen, Feathers, whatever. In the testing site for TSD, I placed a money system, and labeled it Jewels, because I haven't seen that name used on another site. But really, you can name it anything you think fits.
I know, this is confusing. But in the end, it works. So, now that you know about the money, I can tell you how this money is used. Because with money, comes a shop. You would have to create this shop in a whole new board, and reserve one thread for the list of items up for sale. Yeah, I know, wolves don't know how to use currency. But believe it or not, this system is used on many realistic wolf RP sites, along with the fantasy ones. But you don't even have to really list stuff in the shop that has to effect your character.
This is where the multicolored names come in. Obviously, that would be one of the items. You can also list Bolded, Italicized, Single Colored Names, and Strikethrough names. You can edit the Multicolored Names code to do those, too.
If you do want character-editing items in the shop, you can post stuff, like Earrings, Necklaces, Bracelets, Prison chain around neck/ankle, a Mask, Tail Rings, Strange Eye Color, etc. But you have to make sure to keep the prices reasonable. For example, have Bolded names as $10, Multicolored Names as $50/$60, and Single Colored Names as $30. Other things may be more expensive. Like, if you had a Skull Mask, you might make it cost $200, or something. Bracelets and stuff would probably be cheaper, maybe around $50 - $150.
It's confusing now, but trust me, it get easier over time. To see an example of a more sophisticated and organized version of the Shops, see my board, here.
And just a side note, to buy items, a person must post, in a new thread, both the item, and how much the item costs. Admins and Moderators with the ability to edit user profiles can take away the amount of money their item cost. (If you scroll down in their user profile, there is a list of their money, and two empty bars underneath it labeled 'add' and 'minus'. Obviously, to give them money, maybe from contests and such, you would write the amount they won inside the 'add' box and click 'add', or if they bought an item from the shop, you enter the amount of money in the 'minus' box and click 'minus'. It's actually really simple.)
This isn't something that is necessary to add to the site, but I think it organizes things better, and frankly, adds a nice touch ^_^ But I do hope that the half-hour I spent writing this was worth it ;)
